DTP did not find what it expected from Barzani

Having a meeting with Barzani in Northern Iraq, DTP, the pro-Kurdish commission complained him that AKP was not sincere enough in its initiative. Barzani, on the other hand, spoke very clearly: “We are supporting AKP’s efforts at all points.”

A DTP committee which visited Iraq under the presidency of Ahmet Türk had a meeting with Jalal Talabani in Sulaymaniya; following this meeting they had talks with President Masoud Barzani of the Regional Kurdish Government in Northern Iraq in Salahaddin on the Kurdish initiative of the government.

According to what was released after the meeting held closed to the press DTP committee said that they did not find the Kurdish initiative of the government sufficient and AKP was inclined to make a U-turn, asked Barzani to play his best cards. It is also said that Ahmet Türk also asked for the support of the Regional Kurdish Government in Northern Iraq for a “solution process which will also convince PKK.” It is understood that Barzani disregarded the complaints raised in the meeting and hinted at that we won’t be doing anything that will harm his interests.

What was disclosed in the press meeting following the talks is in the same direction. Barzani who said that they give support to the democratization process that favors Kurds in Turkey, further added that “a problem free Turkey” will ease and develop the relations between Regional Kurdish Government in Northern Iraq and Turkey. He continued his speech as follows: “We are supporting AKP government and their efforts at all points, because, in a changing world, Kurdish problem cannot be solved with denial policies. The passing years have proved that the problem can be solved with dialogue and reconciliation, not with weapons. Most of the people in Turkey have reached the conclusion that Kurdish problem must be solved peacefully. Make the best of this process.”

Ahmet Türk said they had exchanged their thoughts and opinions with the executives of KDP and PUK in order to find a joint solution to the Kurdish issue, “The problem is carried forward to a different level as of today,” he commented.

DTP invited Barzani ve Talabani to their 3rd extraordinary congress to be held on October 4 in Ankara; however it was reported that both Barzani ve Talabani said they are not in a position to accept the invitation due to their tight schedule.

Together with Ahmet Türk, the DTP committee consisted of Emine Ayna, Assistant Chairman and Co-Chairman; Sabahat Tuncel, Istanbul MP; Sevahir Bayındır, Şırnak MP; Osman Baydemir, Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality and Hatip Dicle, ex-DEP MP.
