Russia offered Turkey to become one of the partners for the South Stream project which is constructed as a rival to Nabucco line.
soL (NEWS DESK) Igor Sechin, counselor of Putin, responsible for energy issues in Russia, offered to Taner Yıldız, the Minister of Energy, that Turkey will become a partner of South Stream project.
South Stream, natural gas pipe line reaching to Eastern Europe, Austria and Italy via south of Black Sea, is regarded as a rival of Nabucco, another natural gas pipe line reaching to Europe via Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Turkey is one of the partners for Nabucco project now.
Neither Nabucco nor South Stream is annulled
While Minister Yıldız said “Turkey does not regard South Stream as a rival to Nabucco and evaluates all invitations”. Sechin said “South Stream aims the failure of Nabucco. These pipe lines are rivals of each other”.
Sechin also said “Cost and productivity accounts of South Stream show definitely that South Stream project is superior of Nabucco project”.
Supply problem of Nabucco project
Russia made an appointment with Azerbaijan, main supplier of Nabucco, about natural gas purchasing last Monday. This appointment was regarded as “shock to Nabucco”.
Nabucco project based on transport of Şahdeniz gas reserves to Europe via Turkey by skipping Russia has the risk of annulment on condition that it can not be supplied enough natural gas from Azerbaijan.
