Tariq Al Hashimi, Iraqi Vicepresident, exalted Turkey as a regional power and demanded security training and protection of Iraqi internal affairs from other neighbouring countries in a conference in Istanbul.
Iraqi Vicepresident Tariq Al Hashimi gave a speech in Bilgi University on the developments " the future of Iraq after the invasion by the USA" and answered the various questions.
First seminar from the candidate of presidency
At the beginning of his speech Hashimi said that he is not going to talk about the reasons of the invasion and he underlined that the results of political decisions and developments will be told by the history.
Haşimi pointed out that Iraqies agree upon the view that the results of "the revolution" - Hashimi's word that referred to the invasion was translated so in Turkish - in 2003 are devastating. As a society, Hashimi tells, they have suffered from the previous administration and they have lost the atmosphere of brotherhood and two salient mistakes were made. These mistakes are namely the transformation of the administration which prompted the fragmentation of Iraq and the appearance of the new model which disrupted the unity amongst the society.
Haşimi claimed that Iraq can handle its problems within some decades and Iraq's neighbours have their own share of responsibility on this issue. The new administration has been organized by taking the ethnic origins and denominational differences into consideration, due to the distruption of unity within the country, the security problems have emerged and this resulted in the elimination of Iraq as a power in the Middle East.
Demand of security training from Turkey
If Iraq's military power is to reemerge, such a power can help the stability of the region, said Hashimi, and this might lead to the total abolution of the dictatorship which was defeated in 2003. The promises of democracy, state of law and stability have not been realized and even though there is still problems of security, Iraq has been empowered with the help of the tribes. Furthermore, although terror still damages the country, there is hope for the security, Hashimi told.
With Obama's presidency in the USA and the agreement on withdrawal was signed, the humanitarian support is going to increase according to Hashimi. Hashimi told that they expect support from Turkey in terms of security training.
Hashimi pointed out that there are no developments in the plan which emerged after the agreement with the USA, and they still cannot train any security. But he repeatedly emphasized that Turkey is not like the other countries and that it can give security training and also unite the neighbouring countries.
For Hashimi there was an urgent need of a serious administration and with the explosion of votes, the coalitions could have formed. However, these positive improvements should have gone hand in hand with the improving relations with the neighbour countries.
The fundamental issues of the elections, according to Hashimi, are to supply a basis for the training of security forces, mutual diplomacy, the noninterference of other countries to Iraq's internal matters and collaboration with UN. Hashimi claimed that, except Turkey, most neighbours find the domestic disturbances in Iraq useful for their own interest, but that a possible stability in Iraq would help the stability in the region.
Hashimi emphasized that they have pinned their hopes on Turkey and that they expect Turkey to prevent the interference of other countries on Iraq!s domestic matters.
